Your Best People Might Just Be Sitting in the Wrong Seat.
Not everyone in the wrong seat is bad at their job. But some are simply in the wrong role for who they truly are.
Someone might love marketing, but just isn’t great at it. Or maybe they were once great before their energy shifted, before work stopped feeling purposeful.
Many people keep applying for the same kinds of jobs they’ve always had. Not because they love them, but because they’re familiar. It’s easier to stay in the same lane than to start over.
Leaders fall into the same trap... hiring for what’s familiar instead of what’s aligned. You know the checkboxes employers look for before calling you for an interview! They ask if you’ve done the job before, rarely questioning what you’re actually good at or passionate about. Sad but true.
Remember: skill-fit gets someone through the door, but seat-fit keeps them inspired.
For Employers: Before calling underperformance, ask yourself: Is this a skill issue, a motivation issue, or simply the wrong seat?
For Employees: Before asking for a job, ask yourself: Is it truly your passion?
